We’re deeply saddened to hear that Lou Jull drowned whilst paddling on the lower Kaituna on the 11th March 2015. In the short time we knew Lou she was an enthusiastic, positive person and a talented kayaker, at the forefront of a new wave of female whitewater paddlers. Loved by fellow kayakers around the world, Lou was a fantastic role model for male and female paddlers alike. In the words of her friend and fellow Palm team member Andraz Krpic:
‘She made a great impact on most of people that knew her, and to an extent more importantly, she was a head of a small group of women that are changing the way the western world perceives women and the way young women perceive themselves.’
We were very proud to have Lou on our team, and she has left a painful hole in the international paddling community.
Just last month Lou sent us some photos and video from the Lower Kaituna, and she was so excited to share one of her favourite rivers with the world. There are few things more special than time spent with friends on such a beautiful river. Lou will be sadly missed by so many people, and our thoughts go out to all her family and friends.
Rest in Peace Lou.
